I know this isn’t much of a DSLR story, but I know that many of us DSLR-users use Apple products to do our work…and this is huge news.
Earlier this afternoon, Steve Jobs, co-founder & CEO of Apple, surprisingly submitted his letter of resignation to the board. In the letter, Steve wrote that “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.” Even though he is resigning has CEO of the company he co-founded, Jobs was elected Chairman of the Board. Also in the letter, Steve states, “As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.” The board took his recommendation and Cook was named CEO and became a member of the Board effective immediately.

A software update out of Cupertino, CA, Apple Inc. has released Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.4. It adds RAW format compatibility to Aperture 3, iPhoto ’09, and iPhoto ’11 for 11 recently released cameras.

More news out of Portland, onOne Software Inc has also announced the release of DSLR Camera Remote HD for iPad. Expected to be released in late November 2010, the updated version for iPad is to include a “redesigned interface takes full advantage of the larger screen on the iPad, improved gesture-based preview functionality and the addition of starting, stopping and monitoring video from supported HD DSLR cameras from Canon and Nikon.” Additionally, they will also be updating the DSLR Camera Remote app (v1.3 to v1.4), for the Apple iPhone and Touch, to add compatibility to the recently released Canon 60D and Nikon D7000.

Photoshop plugin developer, onOne Software Inc., has recently announced the upcoming release of Perfect Photo Suite 5.5. Compatible with Adobe Photoshop CS2 through CS5, the software will include Perfect Resize 7 (“the next generation of Genuine Fractals”), PhotoTools 2.6, PhotoFrame 4.6, FocalPoint 2, PhotoTune 3, Mask Pro 4.1, and the all new Perfect Layers 1. onOne expects the product to be available in December 2010. It will be a free upgrade for Plug-in Suite 5 owners and the MSRP for new owners is $499.95.

Mobile app developer ApplicationGap has announced that their popular digital model and property release form, Easy Release, has been approved for use by Getty Images contributors. The iPad version of this app also was reviewed by a very, and I mean very, popular DSLR blog.

Since we’re not cool yet, and Canon doesn’t send us review copies, we might as well link to somewhere that does have an extensive review. But, I digress. The boys over at Digital Photography Review (dpreview) have published their in-depth review of the newly released Canon 60D DSLR. Some of the key features of the 60D include an 18-megapixel sensor, in-camera RAW processing, full 1080p HD video recording, and an adjustable LCD screen.
